New Jersey gaming officials are working on a plan that would see the state join forces with other states to link slot machine jackpots across the United States.

New Jersey officials have been negotiating with several other states in an attempt to create large slot machine jackpots that would draw players to the states casinos for an opportunity to win the prize.

Director of New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement David Rebuck refused to name the states involved in the deal but said he was hopeful an announcement could be made by the end of summer.

“In this competitive world, you need new forms of revenue,” Rebuck said.

“You have the potential for larger pools and it could generate interest that people will want to come and engage.”

Rebuck said the technology was already in place to implement jackpots outside state lines.

“It is routinely done among different casinos in Atlantic City, offering so-called progressive jackpots,” Rebuck said.

“It will not be difficult to extend that technology to casinos in other states.”

Atlantic City slot machine revenue has declined every year since 2006 with increased competition in rival states like Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York and Maryland.

Gaming officials are hopeful that the addition of these super progressive jackpots could increase the number of slot machine players in Atlantic City.

Rebuck said the idea was inspired by the giant cross-state Powerball jackpots that have become extremely popular in the United States and saw a lucky winner score a $590 million jackpot last weekend.

The largest online slots progressive jackpots are all currently found in Las Vegas with the popular Megabucks game providing the biggest windfalls for players.

Just last month a jackpot of $ 11,798,514.65 was won by a lucky winner at the Bonanza Casino.
